The mind reflects the movement of usually meaningless thoughts and fears. A constant dynamic flow of data which the human finds very hard to control its' content, nor its' beginning or end of data flow. If we'll look carefully into the content of the mind, we'll probably be amazed by the amount of junk which flows within our head space constantly.
The mind and its' content was not of our significant concern unless we realize that unfortunately and mysteriously it is the place where human attention abides in most of its' waking hours. It can be described as a human insisting on listening to a broken radio which reflects meaningless flow of data most of the day. If we would have seen such human behavior on the street, we would probably think that this person who walks constantly with a broken loud radio near his ears needs some professional help. But do we have a choice ?.
The choice of awakening will be described in the other chapter, but in order to turn more efficient in our journey we have to go deeper and understand more about this inherent destructive mechanism within each born human.
As discussed before, the state of the new born human is usually a state of a shock and even rejection. The memory of "home" is forgotten, and the need to survive arises. What is the closest tool of survival that one can use ?. It is the attempt to understand and clarify what is happening outside of him. It is using the language which the mind uses in order to try and put all these objects in order that will allow this human to function and survive properly.
> An important understanding is to see that a human's state prior to awakening is rooted in deep existential fear. This fear is the fear of death itself. As the link to the eternal essence within oneself is existential forgotten, all which remains to hold to is the movement of the language which we adopted in order to understand and participate in this reality. As this movement sustains a virtual illusory sense of constant living, we immediately cling to this virtual sense of "I", and that allows the existential fear to be blurred and relatively replaced by constant neurotic existential reality. One which is based on fear and lack of choice, one which is based on inherent forgetfulness and insensitivity to the real within us.
In fact, that is the absurd behind the mistake of the philosopher De cart, who believed that "I think, therefore I am". He didn't realize that this kind of living is not the "natural state of living" but possible only due to the fact that human consciousness is constantly present in the state of restless neurosis. Calling it "living" is sadly an embarrassment to mankind's' potential.
How does the mind create a false sense of living is discussed as well in the chapter of "Meditation - The practice of realizing the real.".
